There are a total of 250 umbrellas, each spanning an area of 25 x 25 meters (625 square meters), providing shade across an impressive 143,000 square meters. The concept was initially conceived by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and the project was finally completed in November 2010 at a cost of 4.7 billion riyals, which is approximately equivalent to 1.25 billion US dollars.
