BYD Released the Blade Battery 2.0

BYD, the world’s largest EV maker, released its second-generation Blade Battery on March 6. This battery can charge from 10% to 70% in about 5 minutes, and from 10% to 97% in under 9 minutes, making it one of the fastest-charging EV batteries in the world right now. Of course, we should not forget CATL’s Shenxing Pro, which is also a major contender in ultra-fast charging.

As everyone knows, slow charging in low temperatures has always been a major challenge. But this battery performs flawlessly even in extreme cold, charging from 20% to 97% at -35°C in about 12 minutes, only around 3 minutes slower than under normal temperatures.

Meanwhile, BYD is aggressively expanding its Flash charging network, with plans to build 20,000 stations by the end of this year. Personally, I love the T-shaped megawatt Flash charger’s simple, sleek, and futuristic design. Of course, I’m sure there are solid technical reasons behind that shape.

세계 최대 전기차 제조사인 BYD가 3월 6일 2세대 블레이드 배터리를 공개했다. 이 배터리는 약 5분 만에 10%에서 70%까지, 그리고 9분도 채 안 되는 시간에 10%에서 97%까지 충전할 수 있어 현재 세계에서 가장 빠른 충전 속도를 가진 전기차 배터리 중 하나로 평가된다. 물론 초고속 충전 분야에서는 CATL의 셴싱 프로 배터리도 빼놓을 수 없지. ㅋㅋㅋ

잘 알려져 있듯이 저온 환경에서 충전 속도가 느려지는 문제는 항상 큰 과제였다. 하지만 이 배터리는 극한의 추위에서도 뛰어난 성능을 보여준다. 영하 35°C 환경에서도 약 12분 만에 20%에서 97%까지 충전할 수 있는데, 이는 일반 온도에서의 충전 시간보다 약 3분 정도만 더 걸리는 수준이다.

한편 BYD는 초고속 충전 네트워크를 빠르게 확장하고 있으며, 올해 말까지 2만 개의 충전소 구축을 목표로 하고 있다. 개인적으로는 T자형 메가와트급 초고속 충전기의 디자인이 심플하면서도 세련되고 미래적인 느낌이라 정말 마음에 든다. 물론 저런 형태로 설계된 데에는 분명 기술적인 이유가 있을 것이다. ㅋㅋㅋ
