Chinese Soldiers Steal the Spotlight at Ho Chi Minh Parade

China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers took part in Vietnam’s parade commemorating the Fall of Saigon, joining the largest celebration marking 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War. As they marched through the streets, excited Vietnamese girls couldn’t contain themselves—cheering and shouting “I love you!” and “Lao Gong!” in a frenzy of admiration.

One Korean word almost every foreigner knows is “Oppa,” and when it comes to Chinese, it’s “Lao Gong.” The funny thing is, both are used to refer to a boyfriend or husband. But here’s the difference — “Oppa” can also mean “older brother,” while “Lao Gong” doesn’t carry that meaning.

외국인들이 가장 잘 아는 한국어가 “오빠”라면, 중국어에서는 “라오궁”입니다. 흥미로운 점은, 이 두 단어 모두 남자친구나 남편을 부를 때 사용된다는 점인데요. 근데 차이가 있다면, “오빠”는 실제 친오빠한테도 쓰는 말이지만, “라오궁”은 남자친구나 남편한테만 쓰인다는 거죠. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
