Startled by a Whistling Observer, Owl Hilariously Awakens with One Eye Open

Owls have three eyelids! The upper eyelid closes down when the owl blinks.The lower eyelid closes up when the owl sleeps. The third eyelid is called a nictitating membrane, which is a thin layer of tissue that closes diagonally across the eye. This third eyelid cleans and protects the eye surface.
