Dragon Well Tea

Dragon Well Tea, known as Longjing in Chinese, is a type of green tea produced in Hangzhou, China. Famous for its unique yet delicate flavor and aroma, it is considered one of China’s ten most famous teas.

The tea leaves are usually harvested in early spring, when they are at their most fragrant. The leaves are hand-picked and pan-roasted, a traditional process that enhances the tea’s flavor. Dragon Well Tea is often enjoyed on its own, without sugar or milk, in order to fully appreciate its natural taste and aroma. In China, people often say that Dragon Well Tea is not simply tea, but “the taste of spring itself.”

The price of Dragon Well Tea varies greatly depending on its quality. Some premium grades are even more expensive than gold by weight. Among them, Xihu Longjing Tea, produced around West Lake in Hangzhou, is considered the finest quality and is regarded as a national treasure in China.

Because the Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty was especially fond of Xihu Longjing Tea, he granted it the title of “Gong Cha” (tribute tea), meaning tea reserved for the imperial court. Since then, Xihu Longjing Tea has become a designated tea served at Chinese state banquets. When Henry Kissinger first visited China, the tea served to him was this very Dragon Well Tea.

용정차(龍井茶)는 중국 항저우에서 생산되는 녹차이다. 특이하고 섬세한 맛과 향으로 유명한 이 차는 중국의 10대 명차 중 하나로 꼽힌다.

용정차는 일반적으로 찻잎이 가장 향긋한 이른 봄에 수확한다. 찻잎을 손으로 따서 팬에 볶으면 더 좋은 맛을 낼 수 있다. 용정차는 맛과 향을 충분히 느끼기 위해 설탕이나 우유와 같은 첨가물 없이 그 자체로 즐기는 경우가 더 많다. 중국에서는 용정차를 단순한 차가 아니라 ‘봄 그 자체의 맛’이라고 표현하기도 한다.

용정차는 품질에 따라 가격이 천차만별이다. 일부 고품질 용정차의 가격은 순금보다 더 비싸다. 항저우 서호(西湖) 지역에서 생산되는 서호 용정차는 품질이 가장 우수하고 중국의 보물로 여겨진다.

청나라의 건륭황제가 서호 용정차를 특별히 좋아했기 때문에 황실용 차의 뜻을 가진 공차(貢茶)라는 칭호를 하사하였다. 그 이후로 서호 용정차는 중국 국빈 연회에서 지정된 음료가 되었다. 예전에 헨리 키신저가 처음 중국을 방문했을 당시, 그에게 제공된 차 역시 바로 이 용정차였다.

On Chagee’s menu, there is a drink called “Xingshi Chunshan”, which is made with Dragon Well tea and milk. However, this drink is not available in Korea right now, and even in China, it is usually only offered as a seasonal spring-limited drink.

Good news: Chagee opened two more stores in Yeoksam and City Hall on May 21 and 22. They really know how to make the most of the moment… lol

I rushed to the City Hall store during my lunch break last Friday, but as expected, even if I ordered through the app, I was told I could only pick it up a few hours later. Looks like I’ll have to go back to China to drink it after all. lol

차지 메뉴에는 ‘성시춘산(醒時春山)’이라는 밀크티가 있는데, 용정차에 우유를 더한 메뉴이다. 하지만 이 메뉴는 현재 한국에는 없고, 중국에서도 보통 봄 시즌 한정으로만 판매된다.

그리고 차지가 5월 21일과 22일에 역삼이랑 시청에 또 매장을 열었다. 물이 들어올 때 노를 제대로 젓는구나…ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

금요일 점심 쉬는 시간에 시청점에 급하게 가봤는데, 역시나 앱으로 주문해도 몇 시간 뒤에나 받을 수 있다고 했다. 아무래도 나는 중국 가서 마셔야 할 것 같다. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
