Project Hail Mary (2026)

I haven’t enjoyed an American sci-fi movie this much in ages. Maybe I’ve watched so many sci-fi movies that it’s hard to impress me anymore, but this one really did.

Project Hail Mary is based on Andy Weir’s 2021 novel of the same name. He is also the author of The Martian. The film stars Ryan Gosling as a “hot nerd” scientist.

What impressed me most is that it isn’t a typical dark, scary, high-tension sci-fi movie. It’s funny, warm, and surprisingly touching. Across endless galaxies, two completely different souls from entirely different planets still find a way to understand and trust each other—and even risk their lives to save each other. To me, it feels more like a beautiful sci-fi fairy tale. I should stop here—no spoilers! Anyway, I highly recommend it to every sci-fi fan.

Just a side note: watching it in CGV Gold Class—resting my head on a pillow, wrapped in a blanket, eating popcorn, and lying back for two and a half hours of pure imagination—was absolutely amazing!

정말 오랜만에 이렇게 마음에 드는 미국 SF 영화를 본 것 같아요. SF 영화를 너무 많이 봐서 이제는 웬만해서는 잘 감동하지 않는데, 이 영화는 정말 달랐어요.

프로젝트 헤일 메리는 앤디 위어의 2021년 동명 소설을 원작으로 한 작품이에요. 그는 ‘마션’을 쓴 작가이기도 하죠. 영화에서는 라이언 고슬링이 ‘핫 너드’ 과학자로 등장합니다.

가장 인상 깊었던 점은 이 영화가 전형적인 어둡고 무섭고 긴장감 넘치는 SF 영화가 아니라는 거예요. 유머러스하고 따뜻하며, 생각보다 훨씬 감동적이었어요. 끝없는 은하 너머, 전혀 다른 행성에서 온 두 생명체가 서로를 이해하고 신뢰하게 되고, 심지어 서로를 구하기 위해 목숨을 걸기까지 합니다. 저에게는 한 편의 아름다운 SF 동화처럼 느껴졌어요. 여기까지만 말할게요. 스포일러는 안 되니까요! 아무튼 SF 좋아하시는 분들께 정말 강력 추천합니다.

그리고 CGV 골드 클래스에서 베개에 머리 기대고 담요 덮고 팝콘 먹으면서 두 시간 반 동안 편하게 누워 상상의 세계에 푹 빠져 있었는데… 정말 좋았어요! ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
