Baby Panda Gets Her Name: Shubao

Our fourth baby panda finally has a name! She was named Shubao at her 100-day celebration. “Shu” means “the light of dawn,” which is such a beautiful meaning—although I have to admit, the way it sounds in Chinese is a little bit funny…

I actually voted for Zhubao. She was born on June 3, and since the pearl is June’s birthstone, I thought Zhubao would be perfect for her—a little treasure as precious as a pearl. But really, any name is fine as long as she grows up healthy and happy.

And look at her! She’s just way too adorable, isn’t she?

네 번째 아기 판다가 백일을 맞아 이름을 받았어요. 슈바오(曙宝)래요. ‘슈(曙)’는 새벽빛이라는 뜻입니다. 뜻은 정말 좋은데, 중국어 발음은 살짝 웃기긴 해요. ㅋㅋㅋ

원래 저는 쥬바오(珠宝)에 투표했어요. 왜냐하면 6월 3일생이잖아요. 6월의 탄생석은 진주거든요. 진주 같은 보물….그래도 어떤 이름이든 괜찮아요. 아기 판다가 건강하고 행복하게 자라기만 하면 되죠.

정말 너무너무 귀엽죠? ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
