Tahiti – Jewel of the South Pacific

I came across a pyramid-style ranking of popular island destinations among Chinese travelers, and as I browsed through it, two places I haven’t been to yet stood out: Tahiti and Okinawa.

At the very top — the so-called “ceiling tier” — is Tahiti. I asked a Chinese friend who’s been there, and… yeah, the price tag is no joke. It costs 25,000 RMB (about 5 million KRW) per night just for the accommodation. Factor in flights and everything else for a week, and the total comes to around 200,000 RMB — roughly 40 million KRW.

Then I checked out the bottom tier of the pyramid — the most affordable option: Okinawa, Japan. But when I asked a Korean friend who had recently visited, her response was pretty straightforward: “Don’t bother. It’s just like Gangneung.”

So yeah… Okinawa’s off the table, and Tahiti officially earns a spot on my bucket list.

중국 여행객들 사이에서 인기 있는 섬 여행지를 피라미드 형태로 정리한 순위를 우연히 봤는데, 그중 아직 가보지 못한 두 곳이 눈에 들어왔다. 바로 타히티랑 오키나와.

가장 꼭대기, 이른바 ‘천장급’에 위치한 곳은 타히티였다. 타히티에 다녀온 중국인 친구한테 물어봤더니… 가격이 장난 아니다. 숙소만 해도 하루에 2만 5천 위안, 그러니까 한화로 약 500만 원이 든단다. 항공권이랑 기타 경비까지 다 포함해서 일주일 잡으면 총 20만 위안, 대략 4천만 원 정도 나온다고.

그리고 피라미드 맨 아래, 가장 저렴한 섬으로 소개된 게 일본의 오키나와였다. 마침 최근에 다녀온 한국인 친구가 있어서 물어봤는데, 대답이 아주 간단했다. “ 가지 마. 그냥 강릉이랑 똑같아.”

그래서 결론은… 오키나와는 깔끔하게 제외, 타히티는 내 버킷리스트에 당당히 등극! ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
