Unitree G1 Robot

In China, these robots have been selling really well lately. A lot of seniors bring one with them when they go out. They can carry heavy items, follow behind them, and call for help right away in an emergency. They can’t cook yet, but it probably won’t be long before they start functioning like household helpers.

There are also rental options. Businesses rent robots to hand out flyers or product samples, or even have them perform simple dances outside newly opened stores to grab attention and draw people in.

The robot costs 99,000 yuan in China. And don’t get me started on the exchange rate—when I first came to Korea, 1 yuan was about 130 won, but at Incheon Airport now it’s closer to 223 won for 1 yuan. Even last summer, it was still around 202. I have a feeling the won will keep losing value going forward…

중국에서는 요즘 이런 로봇이 정말 잘 팔리고 있어요. 어르신들이 외출할 때 로봇을 함께 데리고 나가는데, 무거운 물건을 들어주고 뒤따라오며, 응급 상황이 생기면 바로 도움을 요청할 수도 있습니다. 아직 요리는 못 하지만, 머지않아 가정용 도우미 역할은 할 수 있을 거예요. ㅋㅋ

또 대여도 가능합니다. 기업들은 전단지나 제품 샘플을 나눠주는 일에 로봇을 빌려 쓰기도 하고, 새로 오픈한 매장 앞에서 간단한 춤을 추게 해 사람들의 시선을 끌고 유입을 늘리기도 해요.

중국 판매가는 9만 9천 위안입니다. 그런데 환율 얘기만 나오면 절로 한숨이 나와요. 처음 한국에 왔을 때는 1위안이 대략 130원이었는데, 지금 인천공항에서는 223원이라니요. 심지어 작년 여름만 해도 202원 정도였는데요. 원화 가치가 앞으로도 계속 떨어지는 것 같은데…
