Movie Night: The Odyssey (2026)

I finally got to see the movie Odyssey I’d been waiting almost a year for. I liked the storytelling. Even though we all know the story, the non-linear narrative kept me curious from beginning to end. Despite its nearly three-hour runtime, it never felt slow or exhausting.

Of course, it probably helped that I watched it in the Super Plex Studio at Lotte Cinema, Lotte World Tower. Lying comfortably on the couch definitely made the experience even more enjoyable. Since I get a lot of phone calls, being able to answer them without disturbing anyone else was a huge plus. I could also adjust the volume myself, which I really appreciated because I don’t like movies that are too loud. Even going to the restroom was much easier—there was no stumbling around in the dark.

The only thing that didn’t completely work for me was the soundtrack. It wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t particularly memorable. My favorite Christopher Nolan film score is still The Dark Knight, composed by Hans Zimmer.

Overall, I’d give Odyssey an 7 out of 10. It’s definitely worth watching, and I enjoyed it from start to finish. It just didn’t have enough of an impact to make me want to see it a second time in theaters.

드디어 거의 1년 동안 기다려 온 영화 오디세이를 보게 되었습니다. 스토리텔링이 정말 마음에 들었습니다. 누구나 이미 알고 있는 이야기임에도 불구하고, 비선형적인 전개 덕분에 처음부터 끝까지 계속 궁금증을 갖고 볼 수 있었습니다. 전체 영화가 거의 3시간에 달했지만, 지루하거나 길게 느껴지지 않았습니다.

물론 롯데월드타워 롯데시네마의 슈퍼 플렉스 스튜디오에서 관람한 것도 한몫했을 것 같습니다. 편안한 소파에 누워 영화를 볼 수 있었기 때문에 관람 자체가 훨씬 더 즐거웠습니다. 개인적으로 전화가 자주 오는 편이라, 다른 관객에게 방해되지 않게 전화를 받을 수 있었던 점도 정말 큰 장점이었습니다. 게다가 음량도 직접 조절할 수 있었는데, 저는 소리가 너무 큰 걸 좋아하지 않아서 특히 만족스러웠습니다. 화장실에 다녀올 때도 어두운 통로를 더듬거리며 이동할 필요가 없어 훨씬 편했습니다. 어쨌든 완전 만족스러운 경험이었습니다.

이 영화에 대한 아쉬웠던 점이 있다면 사운드트랙이었습니다. 특별히 기억에 남을 만큼 인상적이지는 않았습니다. 저는 크리스토퍼 놀란 영화의 음악 가운데에서는 여전히 한스 짐머가 작업한 《다크 나이트》의 스코어를 가장 좋아합니다. 물론 어디까지나 제 개인적인 의견일 뿐입니다. ㅋㅋㅋ

종합적으로는 10점 만점에 7점을 주고 싶습니다. 충분히 볼 만한 영화였고, 보는 내내 즐거웠습니다. 하지만 저에게는 완전히 압도되거나 깊은 여운을 남기는 작품은 아니어서, 극장에서 다시 보고 싶다는 생각이 들지는 않았습니다.
