Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque

Of Istanbul‘s many ancient wonders, the most famed is Hagia Sophia. Originally built as a Christian church in the 6th century and serving that purpose for nearly 1,000 years, Hagia Sophia was converted into a mosque after the Ottoman conquest in 1453. It is a great architectural beauty and an important cultural monument both for Byzantine and for Ottoman Empire. Hagia Sophia has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985 and welcomes millions of tourists each year.
