Japan Releases Seawater Into Tunnel Built for Fukushima Nuclear-Contaminated Water
Since the afternoon of June 5, the Tokyo Electric Power Company had initiated the process of introducing seawater into an underwater tunnel constructed to release Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water into the sea. By 5 am on June 6, the injection process for the tunnel had been completed, with approximately 6,000 tons of seawater injected. Once fully filled with seawater, the tunnel will function as a conduit for transporting treated radioactive water from the Fukushima plant to a location approximately 1 kilometer offshore. (NHK)
