Thorium: The Future of Nuclear
One of the major news stories in China over the past few days: A newly discovered thorium deposit in Inner Mongolia is estimated to exceed 1 million tons. If used for nuclear power, it could generate enough electricity to sustain China’s 1.4 billion people for the next 60,000 years. With this discovery, China has now surpassed India to hold the world’s largest thorium reserves. Thorium has the great potential to be a game-changer in the energy sector, offering a cleaner, safer and more abundant alternative to uranium. This discovery comes as China is already advancing thorium-based nuclear technology, with the world’s first thorium molten salt reactor currently under construction.
Sometimes, I wonder how many hidden treasures are still beneath us. The future is unknown, but one thing is certain—the Earth is still far from running out of its riches.😄😘🥰
