There is no need in a sense to balance, as you characterized us, to balance our relationship between the United States and China, simply because our foreign policy is an independent one.
물론 말씀하신 것처럼 우리가 미국과 중국 사이에서 균형을 맞춰야 한다고 볼 필요는 없습니다. 왜냐하면 우리의 외교 정책은 독립적인 것이기 때문입니다.

And we are essentially, are concerned with the defense of our territory and the exercise of our sovereign rights. Now whether… ah, we do this not alone, we need to do this with our partners. And again, our strongest partner has always been the United States.
그리고 우리의 주요 관심사는 우리 영토의 방어와 주권의 실질적 행사입니다. 지금… 우리는 이 일을 혼자서 하지 않습니다. 우리는 반드시 파트너들과 함께해야 합니다. 그리고 우리의 가장 강력한 동맹은 언제나 미국이었습니다.

But of course, we are trying to form coalitions and multilateral relations, so that we, those like-minded nations who share the same values as we do, and who hew to the international law, most specifically the UNCLOS, present that position very clearly to anyone who has intentions of unilaterally changing the world order. That is how we are guided.

We’re getting along with China very well. And I don’t mind, if the president dealt with China, you know, if that’s because I think he has to do what’s right for his country. I’ve always said, you know, “Make the Philippines great again. Do whatever you need to do.” But, you’re dealing with China wouldn’t bother me at all.
우리는 중국과 아주 잘 지내고 있습니다. 그리고 마르코스 대통령께서 중국과 교류하시더라도 저는 전혀 개의치 않습니다. 왜냐하면 대통령께서 자신의 나라를 위해 옳은 일을 해야 한다고 생각하기 때문입니다. 저는 늘 이렇게 말해왔습니다 — “필리핀을 다시 위대하게 만드세요. 필요한 건 무엇이든 하세요.” 그러니 중국과 협력하더라도 저는 전혀 신경 쓰지 않습니다.
