The Grand Egyptian Museum Opens Its Doors to the World

The Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, Egypt, is the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization. It officially opened on November 1, 2025. The museum showcases over 100,000 artifacts spanning from the Predynastic Period to Roman Egypt. Among them, more than 20,000 pieces are being displayed for the first time, including the entire collection of King Tutankhamun’s treasures — 5,398 items in total.

I visited Egypt in 2018, and I still remember how all those incredible artifacts — even Tut’s golden mask — were displayed so casually in the crowded old museum. I’m really glad there’s a new museum now where everything can be properly preserved and presented. For someone like me who loves history and archaeology, my trip to Egypt remains one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. Looks like I’ll have to plan another one!

이집트 기자에 있는 그랜드 이집션 뮤지엄은 한 문명만을 다루는 세계에서 가장 큰 박물관이에요. 2025년 11월 1일에 공식적으로 문을 열었고, 선왕조 시대부터 로마 시대까지 약 10만 점이 넘는 유물이 전시되어 있습니다. 그중 2만 점 이상은 처음 공개되는 것들이고, 투탕카멘 왕의 유물 5,398점도 모두 볼 수 있다고 합니다.

저는 2018년에 이집트를 여행했는데, 그때는 투탕카멘의 황금가면 같은 귀한 유물들이 옛 박물관에 그냥 아무렇지 않게 전시되어 있어서 정말 놀랐어요. 이제는 새 박물관에서 제대로 보존되고 멋지게 전시된다고 하니 정말 기쁩니다. 역사와 고고학을 좋아하는 저에게 이집트 여행은 정말 평생 잊을 수 없는 경험이었죠. 다시 가보고 싶네요!
